Recession Concerns Are ‘Almost Tangible’ For Corporate Travel – The Company Dime

Image
Chicago — The next economic recession always is a matter of when. Currently in a 10-year run of strong performance, the travel industry is starting to produce indicators suggesting a downturn may come sooner than later.  There is a full basket of complications, topped by a simmering U.S.-China trade war. Adding uncertainty are Brexit, multiple unstable geopolitical situations, next year’s U.S. presidential election, slowing economic growth around the globe (notably in Germany ) and weakening . . . Travel Passes for Woodstock at Bethel Woods: How do they work? – Poughkeepsie Journal

Image
John W. Barry Poughkeepsie Journal Published 9:58 AM EDT Aug 15, 2019 Officials in the Town of Bethel and Sullivan County are expecting as many as 100,000 people to attempt to visit the original site of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair this weekend as the landmark festival celebrates its 50th anniversary. But, only those with a ticket to celebratory shows held each night at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which sits on the original festival site, will be permitted to enter the grounds. And as officials attempt to mitigate traffic in the Route 17B corridor, any car in the area will need a travel pass. How do the travel passes work? One travel pass was to be sent out to each ticket purchaser, with an additional travel pass supplied to anyone who purchased more than four tickets, Bethel Woods said. Different travel passes were sent out for each night. Upon arrival to th

The terrifying, liberating experience of traveling without your smartphone – Quartzy

Image
What did we do before smartphones? Our devices have become an essential tool for modern life, even when we’re on vacation. In fact, technology is revolutionizing tourism . We navigate with Google Maps, we use TripAdvisor to find good restaurants, we share our travel experiences on Instagram, and we instantly message people back home. Imagine if all of these things were taken away from you. That’s what we did to 24 people who volunteered for our interview-based study on what it’s like to give up your smartphone and travel digital-free. With a growing concern about the negative impact digital technology can have on people’s wellbeing, especially on vacation , we wanted to find out if a digital detox would help. But we found that disconnecting on vacation comes with emotional challenges of its own. We asked our volunteers to keep a diary of their emotions and feelings before they disconnected, during their trip, and after re-connecting when they returned home. We also conducted inter

Keds Studio Jumper is a lightweight athleisure sneaker made for travel – Business Insider

Image
Keds My favorite pair of sneakers from iconic shoe brand Keds isn’t what you’d expect. It’s the casual, athleisure-inspired Studio Jumper (from $44.80).  I’ve worn these knit, pull-on sneakers every time I’ve traveled in the last three months. They feel comfortable and supportive, and their simple, low-profile look makes them a versatile closet staple.  They’re also lightweight, so even when they’re in my bag all day or I’ve spent the entire day walking, I never feel weighed down.  Choosing what shoes to wear can sometimes feel like choosing what to watch on Netflix. Despite all your intentions to try something new or take a risk, you end up falling back on the usual pick.  During the last few months, my shoe fallback has been the Keds Studio Jumper . Being a fallback isn’t a bad thing. It means you’re quality and you’re reliable. If you plan on being on your feet all day, these are exactly the traits you want from a shoe.  Keds The athleisu

Delta has launched a new webpage, which it describes as a customer-friendly version of its daily internal operational outlook. The page, called SkyWatch Daily Outlook , will be updated twice daily on weekdays and daily on weekends, “with the goal of communicating to customers about what to expect from the day’s anticipated flight operations in an easily digestible format and language of their choosing,” Delta said. Content on the page comes directly from Delta’s Operations and Customer Center. The page divides Delta’s operational outlook into six regions of the U.S: Northeast, Southeast, Great Lakes, Central, South Central and Western. Within those regions, weather and other issues that could cause operational challenges are detailed.  On Wednesday afternoon, for example, SkyWatch noted that storms could cause air traffic control delays in the Northeast. The page further noted that Delta had issued a travel waiver to customers flying to or from the New York City area d

BRITS who book mystery travel deals may not be protected if the holiday package firm goes bust. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has warned travellers to check before booking or risk being left out of pocket. “> 1 A mystery holiday deal can be tempting for a surprise trip Credit: Getty – Contributor Mystery deals can be hugely tempting. For a low price, you’re entered into a “lottery” for holidays to exotic destinations. While everyone who buys the deals will get a holiday – which usually includes flights and hotels – they won’t find out where they’re going until the draw. But the CAA has now warned that not all these package holiday will have consumer protection in place in case they go bust. In the UK, all travel companies that sell package holidays with flights must hold Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL) by law . This is not the same for non-UK providers, even if they have a UK office. Travellers are being warned to check whether both the travel company and the

Water-dropping planes and helicopters have continued flights over the wildfire burning through a protected nature reserve. The aircraft are focusing on areas where access to the dense pine forest was hard by land. There are more than 200 firefighters battling the blaze, which broke out at around 3am local time on Tuesday. One volunteer firefighter was taken to hospital after suffering burns. Strong winds have fanned the flames and have hindered efforts to control their spread. Travel: Art holiday in Northumberland – The Scotsman

Sketching on the beach in front of Bamburgh Castle. Picture: Julie Gregory Go on admit it, who doesn’t love the feeling of sand between their toes or a paddle in the sea? Everyone has a favourite seaside destination. It would seem that even artists feel the same, with matchstick man LS Lowry enjoying a good bucket and spade adventure to Berwick-upon-Tweed. He escaped his industrial buildings and back-to-back terraces to visit this town famed for its bracing sea-air and bathing pool, exploring the Elizabethan Walls, sketching from the promenade and painting impressionistic beach scenes from Spittal. You can still have a grand day out in his footsteps today, on The Lowry Trail, a walking route. Turner was a fan of Northumberland, drawing inspiration from the Holy Island and Morpeth, Alnwick, Bamburgh and Warkworth Castles, and the romantic ruins of Dunstanburgh. Both these painters had different styles but

Travel Hacks For Business Trips – Forbes

Photo Credit: Getty Getty When people ask where I live, I often (half) joke by saying, “On United Airlines.”  It’s pretty sad that I actually know when the flight attendants cut their hair, and even more embarrassing when the crew serenades you on the airplane when you reach the three-million mile mark. At The Female Quotient, we multitask on steroids, and believe that trust and relationships happen with in-person interactions. That means we fly as often as we drive.  I’ve been known to have breakfast in Paris, lunch in New York and have been home for dinner with my family in Los Angeles.  August is when many of us are mapping out our fall business trips, and also heading to the airports to soak up the last of our summer vacation days. To help make your travels easier and more enjoyable, I’ve collected the best travel tips from frequent travelers in The FQ pack. Here is our collective advice. AFP/Getty Images The US State Department issued a travel advisory Wednesday for Hong Kong, urging “increased caution” due to the ongoing civil unrest. Flights resumed Wednesday at Hong Kong’s airport after two days of clashes between riot police and pre-democracy demonstrators at one of the world’s busiest air hubs. “Since June 2019, several large scale and smaller political demonstrations have taken place in various areas of Hong Kong, including at Hong Kong International Airport,” the State Department said in a release . “Most have been peaceful, but some have turned confrontational or resulted in violent clashes. Police have used a variety of crowd control measures, including the deployment of tear gas,” the statement continued. “The protests and confron
